William “Mike” R. Barton is currently the chief student achievement officer with the Clark County School District (CCSD). Previously, he served as the associate superintendent for the Instruction Unit and the academic manager for Performance Zone 8 in CCSD. He has been a principal at high-need schools and has experience at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Before becoming a principal, Barton was a classroom teacher as well as a facilitator of teacher professional development efforts at schools. He has also served as a UNLV adjunct faculty member and taught a course on school finance for aspiring administrators.

Barton has maintained close ties to his alma mater by having the CCSD Instruction Unit collaborate with UNLV administration and faculty on research projects and has worked with the College of Urban Affairs and the Provost’s Office to design and implement a leadership program to assist with the principal pipeline needed at CCSD.
